Forsyth Residence, NYC

In Manhattan’s highly dense setting, the luxury of segregating between private/public or service/served space becomes questionable. The typically consolidated services in autonomous rooms (daughter’s bedroom, guest bathroom) are fragmented down to the singular functions (toilet, lavatory, shower, etc.) to be psychologically reassembled and spatially shared.

The design of this apartment investigates the play between the core and the corridor, organizing the functions of domesticity in relation to them. The wet programs are broken down to singular functions, compartmentalized, and flattened all around the central building core; while in the master bedroom, they line up along the perimeter, stretching the corridor all the way to the central built-in bed. The passive role of the core is reversed to an animated multipurpose Swiss Knife-like wet area and mirrored bedroom with central soak-in tub.
